Make a spooky trick or treat bag just in time for Halloween!

Choose two different cotton fabrics; cut out 2 rectangles of each. You can easily adjust the size of the bag to fit the trick-or-treater. This tutorial used rectangles of 51x66cm (20×26”)

1

Pin panels of the same pattern right sides together. Sew along the bottom, 1.25 cm (1/2”) from the edge. Press seams open.

2

3

Pin together the shorter ends of the two sewn panels, right sides together. Sew along the shorter ends to create a circle of fabric. Iron seams flat.

4

Line up the new seams with right sides still together, and stitch along the long sides, starting 2 cm or so from the seam where the two fabrics meet to leave an opening. Do this 4 times, creating the seams for the sides of your bag.

5

7Trim the corners and turn bag inside-out through one of the openings by the seam. Invert one side into the other to create the bag.

Top-stitch just below the openings, about 1.5 cm from the edge. (If you are using a particularly wide cord, you may want to adjust this to 2 or 2.5 cm.) Cut 2 pieces of cord each about 2x the width of the bag plus an additional 20.3 cm (8”) for ease. (In this case, it was about 142.25 cm (56”) each.) Using a safety pin, thread one cord through one side of the bag, then the other side. Tie ends and trim. Repeat with other piece of the cord going in the opposite direction.
