A new tote bag for the beach and another for a trip to the cottage. With a few simple items and some creativity, you can create your own tote-ally awesome reversible tote bag!
SUPPLIES
• Sturdy fabric, such as indoor or outdoor decor fabric
• Decorative Trim of your choice
• 32” Cord (2)
• Scissors
• Ruler/Measuring Tape
• Sewing Machine
• Iron
• 14mm Grommets (4)
• Hammer/Mallet
STEP 1:
Cut 4 (16”x18”) rectangles of your fabric.
STEP 2:
Cut 2 squares (2”x2”) off the bottom corners of your rectangles as shown.
STEP 3:
Sew on decorative trim to the right side of the fabric.
TIP: Don’t be afraid to get creative!
STEP 4:
Sew the sides and base of the rectangles together, wrong side facing out. Leave a 1/2” seam and leave corners and the bag opening unstitched.
STEP 5:
Pinch the corner gaps together and stitch them shut. This will be the base of your bag.
STEP 6:
Repeat Steps 2-5 for the second look.
STEP 7:
Once you have completed the stitching for both looks, flip Look #1 wrong side out and keep Look #2 right side out. Place Look #2 into Look #1.
STEP 8:
Sew the openings of the bags together.
STEP 9:
Mark holes 4-5” away from the edge of the bag for the handles. Use your grommets as a template to mark the hole size and cut accordingly.
STEP 10:
Insert grommets into holes and hammer together follow grommet package instructions. NOTE: Complete this step on a sturdy surface.
STEP 11:
Loop in your cord and tie a knot to secure. OPTIONAL: Fray edges of knot
PRO TIP: Use an iron to press your stitches between steps for easier handling and cleaner look.
